Sunlight
Place your Kalanchoe in a location that receives plenty of bright, indirect sunlight.
A little gentle direct sunlight can be beneficial, particularly during the cooler parts of the day. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense midday sunlight, which may scorch or damage the foliage.
Watering
Kalanchoe is a succulent and prefers its soil to dry partially between waterings.
Check the soil before adding water. Once the upper layer feels dry, water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain freely from the pot.
Avoid keeping the soil continuously wet or waterlogged, as excessive moisture can contribute to root rot. Whenever possible, water directly onto the soil rather than repeatedly wetting the leaves and flowers.
Temperature
Kalanchoe generally performs well in temperatures of approximately 16°C–29°C (60°F–85°F).
Keep your plant protected from extreme heat, prolonged cold conditions and strong drafts.
Soil & Drainage
Kalanchoe performs best in light, well-draining soil suitable for succulents or cacti.
Proper drainage is important because the roots should not remain in excessively wet soil for extended periods.
Feeding
During periods of active growth, you may feed your Kalanchoe with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer at a reduced strength according to the fertilizer instructions.
Avoid excessive fertilizing. Feeding can be reduced during periods when the plant’s growth naturally slows.
Pruning & Maintenance
Remove faded flower clusters and any dry, discoloring or damaged leaves to maintain a healthy and attractive appearance.
Light pruning or pinching back overgrown stems can also help encourage a fuller and more compact plant.
Propagation
Kalanchoe can be propagated from healthy stem cuttings.
Allow the cut end to dry and form a callus for a short period before placing it into suitable, well-draining soil. Water lightly while the cutting begins developing its root system.
A Natural Flowering Plant
Your Kalanchoe may arrive fully bloomed, partially bloomed, or with unopened buds. This is completely natural and depends on the individual plant’s flowering stage at the time of purchase.
Plants arriving with unopened buds can gradually reveal their beautiful soft pink colour as the flowers develop under suitable growing conditions.
