Light Requirements

Emerald Fortune performs particularly well in bright, indirect light, but one of the advantages of the Zamia is its ability to tolerate lower-light indoor environments.

Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh direct midday sunlight, as intense sun can damage or scorch the leaves.

For healthy and balanced growth, position the plant where it can receive consistent indirect natural light whenever possible.

Watering

Zamia plants are naturally tolerant of periods without water and generally prefer being slightly dry rather than excessively wet.

Allow the soil to dry considerably between waterings before watering again.

When watering, moisten the soil thoroughly and allow excess water to drain freely from the bottom of the pot.

Avoid overwatering. Constantly wet soil can cause root and rhizome rot, which is one of the most common problems with Zamia plants.

Soil & Drainage

Emerald Fortune grows best in a well-draining potting mixture that allows excess moisture to escape easily.

Good drainage is particularly important for this plant. Never allow the nursery pot to remain standing in collected water for prolonged periods.

Temperature

Zamia plants thrive in warm indoor conditions and are well suited to tropical environments.

Protect the plant from extreme temperature changes, prolonged cold conditions and strong air-conditioning drafts.

A warm, well-ventilated indoor location with indirect light is generally ideal.

Feeding

During periods of active growth, Emerald Fortune can be fed occasionally with a balanced indoor-plant fertilizer at a reduced strength according to the fertilizer instructions.

Zamia plants are naturally slow-growing and do not require heavy or frequent fertilization.

Simple Care, Lasting Greenery

One of the greatest advantages of Emerald Fortune is its remarkably easy-going nature.

Its ability to tolerate lower light conditions and less frequent watering makes it an excellent option for busy homes, offices, reception areas and workspaces.

Simply wipe the leaves gently with a soft, damp cloth occasionally to remove dust and maintain their naturally beautiful glossy appearance.

New growth may initially appear a lighter, brighter shade of green before gradually developing the deeper green colour associated with mature Zamia foliage.

Zamia/ZZ plants should not be eaten or chewed. Keep the plant away from small children and pets that may attempt to consume the leaves or stems, and wash your hands after extensive handling or pruning.
